Lower Grange: what to know before moving day
Many of the estate's streets are named after birds, which makes them easy to muddle on a booking: Dunlin Way, Whimbrel Close, Sanderling Court, Sandpiper Mews, Avocet Close, Osprey Court, Kingfisher Grove, Mallard Court, Fulmar Mews, Swallow Fold, Falcon Mews and Chaffinch Road are all within a few hundred metres. Please write the full street name and postcode rather than just the house number and the estate name.
Lower Grange Community Centre is on Chaffinch Road, and Lower Grange Medical Centre is near the Rhodesway end of the estate. Further west, beyond the houses, OpenStreetMap maps Pitty Beck and the Pitty Beck Wetlands park. Rhodesway Pool on Oaks Lane and Dixons Allerton Academy on Rhodesway are the big public buildings to the north, and Beckfoot Thornton school is on Leaventhorpe Lane.
Leaventhorpe, mapped as a separate neighbourhood, adjoins Lower Grange to the south-west with its own Leaventhorpe Avenue, Close, Way and Grove, so check which one your address is in.
How the van gets to Lower Grange
Thornton Road, the B6145, is the direct route out from the city centre, and both roads into Lower Grange leave it. Rhodesway leaves Thornton Road and heads north past Oaks Lane, while Bell Dean Road leaves it further west and gives the quickest access to Avocet Close, Charteris Road and Marmion Avenue. From Charteris Road, Chaffinch Road leads into the heart of the estate.
