Two Victorian churches frame the area. St Stephen's, designed by Mallinson and Healey and built in 1859 to 1860, has St Stephen's Road and the St Stephen's C of E Primary School close by. St Joseph's, the Roman Catholic church of 1885 to 1887 on the Manchester Road side, was extended in 1964. Both are Grade II listed and are easy to give as a meeting point.
The old Bowling Mills stand a little to the north-east. The mill warehouse, five storeys and 24 bays wide, was converted to other uses in 2004 and 2005, and the gatehouse and the former office block are listed too. How the van gets to Holme (Bradford)
The A641 Manchester Road is the way in from the city centre, with the Manchester Road bus guideway running beside it. Spring Mill Street, Newton Street and Cotewall Road lead off towards the houses, and Little Horton Lane is on the western side. Coming from the M606, the ring road along Mayo Avenue meets Manchester Road at Bankfoot, a short way to the south.
