Cottingley (Leeds): what to know before moving day
Most of Cottingley is the Cottingley Hall council estate, built in the 1970s on the site of an earlier prefab estate. It follows New Town principles, with cul-de-sacs that keep through traffic away from the houses and footpaths, so homes are reached down closes such as Cottingley Approach, Cottingley Chase, Cottingley Fold and Dulverton Grove rather than from a main road.
The two tower blocks on the hill in the middle, Cottingley Towers and Cottingley Heights, went up in 1972 and were refurbished in 1989; they were the tallest flats in Leeds when built. Cottingley Hall Cemetery and Crematorium is run by the council, the Junction 1 Retail Park with B&Q and B&M is next to it, and the White Rose Centre is a short walk.
How the van gets to Cottingley (Leeds)
Cottingley Drive is the estate's spine road and meets Ring Road Beeston, the A6110 dual carriageway, with Elland Road and Gelderd Road (A62) close by. From Bradford the van can use the M62 to the Gildersome roundabout and the A62 towards Leeds, or the ring road from the Stanningley bypass.
The drive from Bradford is roughly 25 to 35 minutes. That is an estimate from route data, not a timed run, and traffic changes it.
