Burley Woodhead: what to know before moving day
Most of Burley Woodhead is a loose string of farms and homes along Moor Road, the higher road between Ilkley and Guiseley, at about 560 feet with the open moor climbing behind it. Stoney Lane, Moor Lane and Green Lane are the other lanes nearby, and farm names such as Hag Farm, Onion Farm and Jump Beck Farm appear on the map along them. The Hermit is the local pub.
Several of the older buildings are listed at Grade II, among them Turnpike Farm House and its former barn from the 17th century. The village school ran from 1832 to 1976; its listed building is now in private hands, and the 1867 Wesleyan chapel is also a private house. Primary schooling is at Burley and Woodhead Primary School in the village. Carr Beck runs through the southern half of the hamlet into Carr Bottom Reservoir. A converted chapel or school room can have a front door and stair nothing like a modern house, so a photo of both helps with the quote.
How the van gets to Burley Woodhead
One way up from Bradford follows the A6181 Canal Road and the A6038 towards Baildon, then Hawksworth Road, Mill Lane and Hillings Lane on to Moor Road, which runs straight through the hamlet. The other is the A65, the valley road past Burley in Wharfedale; the hamlet itself is up on Moor Road, not on the A65. Farm tracks such as Hag Farm Road leave Moor Road, so say if your address is up one of them.
The drive from Bradford is roughly 20 to 35 minutes. That is an estimate from route data, not a timed run, and traffic changes it.

Does Burley Woodhead still have its own school?
No. The hamlet school closed in 1976 and the building is now a private home. The primary school for the area is Burley and Woodhead Primary, in Burley in Wharfedale itself, which matters if you are choosing a moving date around the start of a school term.
