Bowling: what to know before moving day
Iron shaped Bowling. The Bowling Iron Works opened in the late 1780s and made iron until 1906, and its spoil heap, the Bowling Coke Hill, rose nearly 250 feet above Wakefield Road until it was levelled in the late 1950s. The iron works' main office of about 1830 survives and is listed, and a large area on Lower Lane, once the works' slag tip, is brownfield land.
St John's Church, built in 1840 to 1842 around a cast iron frame, is the landmark to give. The Napoleon, an early 19th-century pub nearby, and the stone cottages of Billingly Terrace are also listed. East Bowling Library, Bowling Pool, Bradford Forster Academy and New Hey Road Methodist Church help the driver find streets such as New Hey Road, Parry Lane, Fenby Avenue and the Flockton roads. Bowling Back Lane has industrial estates along it.
How the van gets to Bowling
The A650 Wakefield Road runs through Bowling from the city centre to the Dudley Hill roundabout on the A6177 ring road. Bowling Hall Road leads to Bolling Hall and Bowling Park, and Bowling Back Lane, East Bowling's old northern boundary, serves the industrial side along with Hammerton Street.

Both. Bolling is the older spelling, kept in Bolling Hall and Bolling Road, and the Victorian historian William Cudworth regretted the change to Bowling. Street names and the ward use Bowling, so give the postcode and the driver will find you either way.
