No halls in town: Warrington students moving out to university
The Padgate campus, where the university once had eight halls, closed in 2021 and was put up for sale for housing. Teaching moved into the town centre, to Time Square and Sarah Parker Remond House a five-minute walk away, and the courses are practice-based nursing and social work. So a student move here is usually a sixth former leaving home for a first-year hall in Liverpool or Manchester, both about 20 miles down the M62, or in Chester, 23 miles away by the M56.
That makes the job a single run with a room's worth of belongings: a desk chair, boxes, bedding, a small fridge, a bike. It is loaded at the family home in Stockton Heath, Penketh or Birchwood and carried into the hall at the other end, within whatever unloading time the hall allows. In June the same run comes back the other way, or goes from the hall to a second-year shared house in the same city.

- Book the arrival slot your university offers, then send it with the hall name and the postcode
- Pack in medium boxes and bags rather than one big case, as halls often allow only a short unloading stop
- Moving out in June, check the hall's check-out time before choosing a collection hour

Student Removals in Warrington: your questions
Are there university halls in Warrington?
No. The University of Chester closed its Padgate campus and its halls in 2021, and University Centre Warrington in Time Square has no accommodation of its own.
Can you take a first-year room from Warrington to a Manchester hall?
Yes. The room is loaded at home and carried into the hall, timed to your arrival slot. Manchester is about 20 miles away by the M62.
How far ahead should I book a September move?
As soon as your arrival slot is confirmed, because the weekends either side of term starting are asked for first. A move in a quieter month needs much less notice.
