Tram first, van later: student moves out of Bury
With the Metrolink running from Bury Interchange to Piccadilly, plenty of first-years stay at home and travel in, and the van is only needed later, once a rented house in Fallowfield or Salford begins on a set date. Others go straight into halls, such as the University of Manchester's Fallowfield Campus and Owens Park off Wilmslow Road, or Salford halls reached by the M60 and M602. The University of Greater Manchester is the short run west along the A58 to Bolton.
A halls move is planned backwards from the arrival slot the university sends. From Bury the van joins the M66 at junction 2, so the pick-up is set with the M60 traffic in mind. A bedroom's worth takes up a small corner of the 3.4m floor, with the desk chair, bike and cartons laid flat. Coming back in June there is usually more than went out, and if home has no space, the van can unload into a self-storage unit hired in your own name.
Arrival slots, tenancy dates and packing a Bury bedroom
- Send the halls arrival slot, or the day and hour the letting agent hands over the house keys
- Travelling in on the tram for year one? Leave the van booking until the second-year house has a start date
- Holdalls and medium cartons are easier than one giant case on a narrow halls staircase
- Give the full BL8 or BL9 postcode, since Elton and Brandlesholme sit on the far side of town from the M66
- Book as soon as the September or June date is confirmed, as those weeks fill

One room, two addresses: the price of a Bury student move
The miles to the halls, the size of the room's contents and the floors at each building decide the figure, which is fixed in advance once the two postcodes and some photos arrive. See how we quote for the full breakdown.
Student Removals in Bury: your questions
Is there a university in Bury?
No. Bury College and Holy Cross College both run some degree-level courses, but Bury has no university, and most degree students go to Manchester, Salford, Bolton or further.
I'm commuting on the Metrolink this year. Will I need a van at all?
Probably when you rent a house for second year. Book once the tenancy and key handover are confirmed, and everything leaves your Bury bedroom in one trip.
Is there anywhere to keep my room's contents through the summer?
Only a unit you rent from a self-storage company, as the business keeps no storage. The van can deliver to it in June and fetch the lot in September.
Can you move me from halls in Fallowfield to a house in Salford?
Yes. A move that never touches Bury is quoted in the normal way, from the two addresses, the contents and when each set of keys changes hands.
