Two main roads carry the name. Bruntcliffe Road has the everyday landmarks: a Spar, the Victoria filling station, Bruntcliffe WMC, and a Toby Carvery and Travelodge further along. Bruntcliffe Lane is home to Bruntcliffe Academy, the secondary school built there in the early 1960s. Howden Clough Road, with the Shoulder of Mutton pub, heads off towards Howden Clough.
The area was mining ground: the Hudson family owned Victoria Colliery in Bruntcliffe. Today the Bruntcliffe Industrial Estate and the business units on Bruntcliffe Way take up a good part of it, beside the housing.
