College Bank, Yorkshire Street and the walk to the kerb
The seven College Bank towers, the Seven Sisters, overlook the centre between St Mary's Gate and Spotland Road. Rochdale Boroughwide Housing told residents in October 2025 that all seven blocks must be vacated, and Mitchell Hey was emptied in March 2026, so tenants are being rehoused across the borough. A move out of a tower depends on the lift: if it is out of action, everything comes down the stairs, and that changes the time on the day. Tell us the block, the floor and whether the lift is working before a price is set.
Flats above shops on Yorkshire Street, Drake Street and around the Exchange are a different problem. The entrance is often a side door and a narrow stair, and the street outside is one way or busy with buses heading for the Interchange. The van stops in a legal bay or a surface car park such as Church Lane, High Street or Smith Street, and the load is walked round. Say which door the flat uses, so the van stops at the nearest legal bay to it.
Lifts, keys and bays for a Rochdale flat
- Check with the landlord or RBH whether the lift can be held or protected for the move
- Book the earliest slot you can for a flat over a shop on Yorkshire Street or Drake Street
- Measure the stair turns for a sofa or a double wardrobe before moving day
- Have the keys for both flats and any bin store or back gate on the day
- A wardrobe or bed that will not pass the landing is taken apart and rebuilt at the new flat
- The van is about 2.5m tall, so it waits in the open, not in a barrier car park

Flat Removals in Rochdale: your questions
I am being moved out of College Bank. Can you help?
Yes. Give the block, your floor, the new address and whether the lift is running, and photos of the rooms. The price is fixed before the day, and beds and flat-pack are taken apart and rebuilt at the other end.
Can you move a one-bedroom flat in a morning?
A modest one-bedroom flat with a working lift and the van close by can be done in a morning. Stairs only, or a long carry to a bay, adds time.
Where does the van stop for a flat above a Yorkshire Street shop?
In the nearest legal bay or an open council car park, then the boxes are walked to the van. Barrier car parks are out, as the van is too tall for them.
