White Abbey: what to know before moving day
There was never an abbey here. The name probably comes from a grange farmed by Cistercian monks, most likely from Kirkstall Abbey in Leeds. Today much of the district is social housing, and the streets off Wood Street carry monastic names: Jervaulx Crescent, Rievaulx Avenue and Nostell Close, with Ure Crescent close by.
St Mary Magdalene church stands close to White Abbey Road, the St Michael's Road recreation ground is a short walk away, and Dixons Manningham Academy is on Wood Street. Green Lane Primary School and Abbey Green Nursery School are both on Green Lane. On the eastern side, the Bradford Reform Synagogue at Bowland Street, off Lumb Lane, was completed in 1881 and is Grade II* listed.
Lumb Lane, along the eastern boundary, is lined with independent shops. If your flat is above one, mention it: the carry is through the shop or a side door, and the van may need to wait on a side street such as Bowland Street or Picton Street.
How the van gets to White Abbey
White Abbey Road is part of the B6144: from the Westgate end near the city centre it runs past Wood Street and becomes Whetley Hill at the junction with Whetley Lane and Carlisle Road. Lumb Lane leaves Westgate on the eastern side. Because Carlisle Road meets it at the Whetley Hill end, the van can come in from the Manningham side or up from the city centre.
The drive from Bradford is roughly 5 to 20 minutes. That is an estimate from route data, not a timed run, and traffic changes it.

Either. For the council it is in the Manningham ward, but historically White Abbey was its own district, and local usage often keeps the names apart, so use whichever your address says.
