Manningham: what to know before moving day
Lister Mills, also called Manningham Mills, dominates the skyline from the top of Oak Lane. Built in 1873 as the largest silk factory in the world, it is Grade II* listed, and its 249-foot chimney, Lister's Pride, can be seen from most of Bradford. Urban Splash converted part of it into 131 homes, finished in 2006. In a converted mill, ask the management about lifts, loading and parking before booking; the site has an underground car park beneath a piazza.
The rest of the housing is varied: mill buildings, wool merchants' houses and back-to-back terraces. Around Oak Lane, streets such as St Mary's Road, Athol Road, Rosebery Road and the Selborne terraces are close together, and Westbourne Primary School on Skinner Lane and St Paul's Church are useful markers. Manningham Library is on Carlisle Road.
To the north, Lister Park holds Cartwright Hall, a boating lake and the Mughal Water Gardens, and Bradford Grammar School sits beyond it. Valley Parade, Bradford City's ground since 1903, is off Manningham Lane, so a move on a home match day is best planned away from kick-off.
How the van gets to Manningham
Manningham Lane, part of the A650, runs from Hamm Strasse to Lister Park, where it becomes Keighley Road. Oak Lane joins Manningham Lane and Keighley Road at the park end and runs west to Heaton Road and Lilycroft Road. Lumb Lane and White Abbey Road serve the southern side, and Carlisle Road, part of the A6177, also runs through Manningham.
