Scatcherd: what to know before moving day
Scatcherd Park sits beside Morley Leisure Centre and holds a playing field, a skate park, a children's park, a bowling green and the memorial gardens. Its war memorial, a bronze figure on a granite plinth from 1927, is Grade II listed. The park was given to the town by Alice Scatcherd, the campaigner for women's rights, and the Scatcherd Mausoleum, from the late 17th century, stands in the churchyard of St Mary in the Wood.
Homes here range from terraces on Wellington Street, Albion Street and Gladstone Terrace to the houses on Scatcherd Lane, Scatcherd Grove and Scatcherd Park Avenue. The Grade I listed Town Hall of 1892 to 1895 is only a couple of hundred metres away, as is Morrisons. The seven hills are Scatcherd, Dawson, Daisy, Chapel, Hunger, Troy and Banks, and the streets between them rise and fall accordingly.
How the van gets to Scatcherd
Queensway, part of the B6127, runs along the park, and Scatcherd Lane, a 20 mph road, links Corporation Street with Queens Road and East Park Street. Bruntcliffe Lane (A643) brings traffic in from the A650 on the Bradford side, and Corporation Street is one-way, so the approach depends on which street you are on.
