Lupset: what to know before moving day
Before the estate there was a manor here: the Norman Lyvet family held land at Lupset, and flint and stone tools have been found in the area. Today it is streets of council-built houses, some bought by their tenants under the Right to Buy and the rest passed to Wakefield and District Housing in 2005. Robin Hood Crescent, Little John Crescent and Sherwood Grove sit close together, and Milton Road, Gissing Road and Waterton Road are nearby, so a street name alone narrows it down quickly.
St George's Road and School Road are near the middle, with St George's Church and its community centre, Wakefield Snapethorpe Primary School, Jubilee Hall and The Lupset pub nearby. The City of Wakefield Golf Course, the municipal course, is at Lupset too, and English Martyrs Catholic Church has stood on Dewsbury Road at Lupset since 1932.
How the van gets to Lupset
From Bradford the simplest line is the M62 and M1 to junction 40, then the A638 Dewsbury Road east towards Wakefield. Broadway meets the A638 from the south, and at Borough Corner George-a-Green Road (B6475) crosses it; either takes the van into Lupset. Horbury Road, the A642, also passes through Lupset on its way into the city.
