South on the M1 or west over the Pennines: Sheffield's long runs

London is about 162 miles from Sheffield, by the A61 south to Chesterfield, the A617 and the M1 from junction 29. Nottingham is about 40 miles, and the route is similar. A move to the south starts early, so the van is loaded before the morning traffic and reaches the far end in daylight. An overnight stop may be agreed in the quote for a very long move.

Manchester is about 38 miles west over Snake Pass on the A57, then the M67, a road that climbs high over the moors and can be closed by snow in winter. Woodhead, the A628, is the other route. For a move north, the van takes the M1 to Leeds and on to the A1. Long moves from steep Walkley or Crookes streets need the same thought at the start as any Sheffield move.
