New Scarborough (Guiseley): what to know before moving day
Nunroyd Park is the green break between the housing of Yeadon and Guiseley. It was once the house and land of a mill owner, and before that parkland belonging to a nunnery; royd means a clearing in a wood. Streets on the New Scarborough side include Henry Terrace, Milton Terrace, West View and Park View, with closes such as Coverley Rise, Crofters Lea and Plowmans Walk. Ss Peter and Paul Catholic Church and its primary school are here, and West Side Retail Park is on the A65.
The Yeadon branch railway, opened in 1894 and closed in 1964, served mills along its route, Kirk Lane Mill among them. Its line is now a path, marked on OpenStreetMap as the Yeadon-Guiseley Railway Path, and most of it can still be walked, past Guiseley Retail Park.
How the van gets to New Scarborough (Guiseley)
The A65 passes as New Road, first built in 1827 to link Kirkstall with Guiseley, and turns into Leeds Road heading into Guiseley. Kirk Lane leads off into Yeadon, while Ghyll Royd and Milner's Road connect with the Guiseley side.
